Children with special needs deserve the right amount of attention to help them build and progress in social learning atmospheres. Summer camp is great for improving developmental learning for children of young ages, and the Aaron School's Camp Green Tree can help them on their way.Camp Green Tree's optional six-week summer instructional program has been designed to meet the needs of our special education population. Camp begins in early July and ends in mid-August for Aaron School K-5th grade students and new incoming Aaron students. In addition, this year camp is opening its doors to students outside the Aaron community. While the focus is on maintaining and augmenting educational and social skills learned during the academic year, the atmosphere and activities of the summer program are more relaxed and “camp-like.” Students participate in swimming lessons, weekly field trips, and special activities focusing on a concrete, curricular theme. Speech and language pathologists and counselors provide social skills instruction incorporating drama and role-playing. In addition, students receive individual and/or group speech, occupational therapy and counseling services. Students are placed in cohesive groups for reading and math lessons, which are designed to support and review previously learned academic skills. The Aaron School also offers another great way for children to get involved this summer with the half day, six week program. Camp Green Tree's half day program operates from 8:15 a.m to 12:30 p.m, Tuesdays through Fridays. Children receive daily reading and math instruction designed to maintain and develop skills acquired during the regular school year. All math and reading instruction is provided in the morning. In addition, children will participate in swimming two days a week , sports activities and a variety of small group activities. This half day program also includes a group social skills class run by either a speech pathologist or counselor.
