When thinking about stand-up comedy many are hesitant and apprehensive about speaking in public and finding that they are not as funny as they think. Making an audience of strangers laugh on the spot is a tricky and skillful endeavor and sometimes even the best need some direction and coaching. Broadway Comedy Club hosts the New York Comedy School, the only comedy school taught by the owner and booker of three major comedy clubs in Manhattan.

The New York Comedy School helps potential improv, stand-up, and sketch comedians learn what makes them funny, fine tune their talent, and learn how to market and promote themselves. Joke structure, audience interaction and how to develop a unique comedic voice are all just some of the many topics that will be covered and practiced. Small classes allow you to learn with and from other comedians. Classes include a guaranteed audition for the owner which can lead to getting gigs at all three comedy clubs. Classes also grant you access to auditions for Comedy Time TV, Comedy 360 Festival, the Broadway Comedy Club radio show, and other partner shows.

The New York Comedy School is headed by Chris Murphy, a 20 year comedy veteran. He has appeared on countless TV shows including Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn which he was a comedic writer. In addition, Al Martin, the owner of Broadway Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club, and Greenwich Village Comedy Club co-teaches alongside Chris to give students a business perspective on being a successful comedian.
