Berne Media Enterprises & Songwriting: The Birth of a Song
What does it take to write a new song? On today’s Songwriting Corner from Berne Media Enterprises, we cover the ‘birth’ of “Ya Llegó El Día,” the first in our “Birth of a Song” series:
We got together that Sunday as we usually did that year, to write a new song. My brother Alex broke out his guitar and started showing me some of his new ideas. “This sounds like something fun…,” he said, as he started strumming some chords, and I agreed, bopping my head to the rhythm. “And funny,” I added. “This makes me think of a guy who is frustrated and is drinking away all the frustrations he has with his girlfriend, and this woman is calling him all kinds of names as a not-so-gentle form of criticism.”
As Alex and I played off of each other, we came up with the chorus of the song: “Una vez me dijiste que esto funcionaría, y así lo quisiste… pues ya llegó el día.” Translation: “You once told me that this would work out, and this is how you wanted it… Well, the day has come.” And Alex kept strumming and vamping to the chords, singing “Weh-oh-oh-oh… Weh-oh-oh-oh, weh-oh-oh.” And we sang it again, this time in two-part harmony. We looked at each other, knowing we just gave birth to a hit.
Now, don’t let me be the judge – judge for yourself! Here’s your chance to listen to a hit in the making – the music video for the song “Ya Llegó El Día”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cwq4gg5KTs...And if you love the video, please don’t be selfish… share it with the world!
