Best Kids Music Classes in NYC: My Little Body and Fingers

It's become increasingly clear that there is simply nothing you love more than your children. You've watched them grow over the years, and everyday they get smarter, stronger, more passionate and creative, and today is finally the day your child gets to hone their skills. She walks onto the stage and takes a seat near the grand piano. She plays Mozart's "Moonlight Sonata" in the first movement. Her fingers glide across the keys, and while the crowd is amazed at her degree of proficiency, today you're just proud to be her mom. She strikes her final key, and stands up to face the crowd, and as she smiles at you, the proud mom in you smiles back and says "well done."

Music Beans is a creative place for music learning, which nurtures children's innate curiosity and musical potential, fostering priceless moments such as these: an unforgettable dream for both you and your child. At Music Beans, passionate young music lovers get the chance to experience music in a fun and exciting learning environment with highly refined musicians and music educators from culturally diverse backgrounds. There is a wide range of classes offered, where educators employ Developmental Appropriate Practice and will help your child build a solid foundation. Through this, the school strives to develop your child's creativity, critical thinking, body coordination, sensory integration and artistic expression so that they can carry these skills throughout their musical career and overall lives. Music Beans also embraces the philosophy "learning without knowing," which helps your child to internalize musical elements and skills acquired for instrument learning in a fun and engaging way.

My Little Body and Fingers is Music Beans’ early childhood program, specifically designed for young children ages two to three and four to five. This research-based music program is developed by their founder, Mimi Lin, and is focused on intuitive and creative learning. It sets a good foundation for children in music development, strengthens their fine motion, and nurtures their creativity. In a fun and game-like environment, children learn the essential music elements such as steady beats, rhythm, intervals, dynamics and piano hand gestures, while learning to play instruments.

The program consists of free play for the first 5-10 minutes, where children can play with instruments and discover diverse sounds to stimulate creativity, which is critical to the learning process. After this, children engage in world sound, which introduces them to songs with various modes and tonality to open their minds and sound spectrum. Singing, body coordination, note reading and composition are spread out in the lesson. The last part of class includes piano exploration. Children learn the basic elements of piano playing through interactive and dynamic activities.

At Music Beans, students are nurtured to a wide variety of music genres including classical, contemporary, rock, pop, world, and jazz music. Students are taught not only how to master musical techniques and to read musical notation, but are also nurtured in the ability to use music as a medium to express themselves and put their voice in their music making. Every parent strives to help their children become the best that they can be, and with the My Little Body and Fingers program, you can plant the gift of music into your child's mind and watch them blossom into the next Mozart.
