Summers may feel aimless without guidance and recreation to keep children, teens and young adults occupied and interested. Use the summer to learn a new skill or develop a new hobby in the company of friends and family! University Settlement – Houston Street Center, one of the leading social service institutions of the Lower East Side, is offering two exciting new EXCEL programs that are designed to provide teens and young adults with recreational activities that are fun, as well as friendly and accessible to those with special needs.
$75 / 8 Week Course
This introductory computer class teaches teens and young adults how to navigate Windows and use basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. This program also teaches safe and effective web browsing for personal and educational Internet use. Introductory skills in technology will benefit students well into the future.
This program runs through the summer Sundays, 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm from July 8th to August 26th.
EXCEL Create – Pasta Making
$30 Supply Fee / 8 Week Course
This eight week course will teach children and teens how to get creative in the kitchen! Pasta is a delicious and simple dish for any student to make, and all participants can bring home their pasta creations and cooking tools to impress the family. Each class is facilitated by a chef, ABA therapist, and occupational therapist, so that all special needs are fostered and addressed! Gluten-free ingredients are available upon request for those with dietary specifications as well.
This program runs through July 7th - August 25th on Saturdays, 10:30 am – 11:30 am for teens and young adults, and 11:45 am - 12:45 pm for children ages 3-6.
Please note that parents of children must remain on-site at all times, and students must be pre-registered and paid for in advanced. Free Wi-Fi is available on site for easy connection.
