Cut Business Expenses with Tips from PR Firm Light of Gold

Whether the economy is on a downturn or not, there is never anything wrong with saving a little money. Many businesses suffer from unnecessary expenses, but they aren’t noticed until it’s too late. As a founder of my own business, I had to downsize a little in all the right places because of the economy. But that doesn’t mean my business lost any of its previous capabilities. Yours doesn’t have to either! It is very important to review your business regularly for any ways that you can switch out old methods for newer and smarter ones.

I used to run Light of Gold PR, Marketing and Consulting LLC from a regular and permanent office, with my own desk, computer, and phone. After the economy took a plunge, my assistant and I moved to a shared workspace. At first, it was difficult to get used to, but in reality we were just being stubborn, stuck in our old ways, and inflexible. Does this sound familiar? This PR firm workspace is a large and open office environment with Wi-Fi and printing available, as well as access to conference rooms. We work side by side with countless other professionals on a daily basis. This was one of the ways that I was able to cut down my expenses to nearly 30% of what they used to be.

Another innovative way that we were able to significantly cut down on expenses was by hiring interns, freelancers, and part-timers. The benefit of working with interns is being able to mentor the next generation of our work force as well as learn their perspective and approach to tasks. Interns are eager to learn and generally young, so they are educated on all the newest techniques and fads, which can be applied to the business model. The right interns will work hard to do a good job and you can hire them to become a trusted part of your team. We have found that our interns have mentored “us” in new schools of thought. Hard work pays off for an intern because in return, they are provided with a letter of recommendation or school credits, as well as an extremely valuable real-world experience.

Incorporating cloud computing into our business plan has had a significant impact on our business as well. Since we are in a shared workspace, we don’t come into the “office” every day, so instead we use various types of tools to facilitate our communication. We use Skype and Oovoo for our meetings, as well as text messaging and phone calls for quick and simple communication. We run almost entirely off of a “cloud” database so that everyone can have access to documents at anytime from any place. This has made us more productive, especially on days that we are working “virtually” (from home), our entire team can collaborate and update documents. There are countless ways to stay ahead of the curve and turn your business into a lean, mean, selling machine.

The future of business is not innovation on a grand scale, but rather many little innovations. Businesses big and small must constantly be ready for little changes along the way and be able to adapt at all times. Embrace new methods of working and it will help enhance and grow your business and increase your profitability with these tips from PR firm Light of Gold PR, Marketing and Consulting LLC.
