Like many maligned businesses who have fallen victim to Yelp's questionable business practices, high-end Upper East Side personal training gym Halevy Life was no different as it sought help to pull nearly a dozen positive reviews from real clients from Yelp's so-called "filter."
Halevy Life went so far as to provide Yelp with confidential client information (with their client's approval) to verify the validity of reviews, however the pleas fell on deaf ears at Yelp. What added insult to injury was the attempt to remove an obviously fictitous and defamatory review from "Banana W." -- the type of review, replete with TOS violations, from a one-time reviewer Yelp's "filter" should exclude -- also to no avail.
Being a "transparent business with nothing to hide," as fitness expert founder and childhood obesity pioneer Jeff Halevy puts it, Halevy Life took justice into their own hands and decided to reveal what was behind the filter (which, thanks to the small type and captcha requirement, most people don't even know exists -- did you??). And as Halevy points out, "How could a business that has grown nearly 500% in the past three years create anything but insanely positive customer experiences? We have editors from all the top fitness magazines as clients, and I'm sure they have discerning fitness palates!"
The following are real reviews and testimonials (from Yelp's site; "filtered," mind you) from Halevy Life's clients:
