NYC Video Game Store 8 Bit Goes Zero Bit
8 Bit And Up, one of the only video game stores in Manhattan that still sells vintage and used video games recently, has opted to go low-tech. In addition to retro video games, they started stocking a line of popular board games and card games in October and sales are booming. 8 Bit launched this new line with classic games like Monopoly, Risk, Sorry, Scrabble, Clue and Trivial Pursuits, but they are also stocking modern classics like Munchkin, Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Puerto Rico, Lord of the Rings, Call of Cthulhu, Game of Thrones, 7 Wonders and Elder Sign.
“Gamers are gamers," said store manager Marcus Richardson. "Video game or board game. It doesn’t matter. It’s still fun and entertaining for people. We have entry-level games that are great for parties and informal gatherings, as well as games for the serious gamer. It’s a good idea to have a couple of board games around the house especially if we lose power again!”
Industry trends show that there is a renewed interest in board and card games, possibly because they afford a low-cost way for people to socialize in a down economy. This is understandable when you add up the cost of dinner and a movie for a small group.
In the future, 8 Bit And Up will be expanding into collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. They will also be hosting game nights. Anybody interested in getting together to play Magic, Munchkin or some other game should feel free to contact the NYC video game store.
