NYChessKids December After School Program Event Lineup
Before children start preparing their minds for winter recess, after school program NYChessKids has a complete list of events to keep them active throughout the month of December. Everything from chess workshops to tournaments offer children an abundance of educational opportunities to keep their minds active before jumping into their winter break fun.
Saturday, December 1 – Tournaments at P.S. 11 (320 West 21st Street)
Open to novice chess players and experts, chess tournaments are the best way to let your child test their skills amongst their peers. Onsite registration for the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of, with the start of the tournament kicking off at 10 a.m. Sections include No Score, Novice 1, Novice 2, and Kids Helps Kids, allowing children of a broad skill set test their knowledge of the game of chess.
Saturday, December 15 – NYChessKids Workshop (191 7th Avenue, bet. 21st & 22nd Sts.)
Parents and children are encouraged to attend this chess workshop with the founder of NYChessKids Saudin Robovic and the president of the after school program, Joseph Shepard. One of the program’s best teachers Ivan Dirx will also be at the workshop held in the Learning Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children of the after school program will learn everything from Endgame Studies, to Classical Games, Strategies and Tactics, as well as supervised Open Play time.
Wednesday, December 26 – Friday, December 28 – Camp at the Learning Center
This exclusive chess workshop with master teachers is a great place for children to learn chess and have fun at the same time. During the camp, students will be paired off with children of the similar age and skill level. Together they will participate in chess-related puzzle solving, demonstration board lessons and analysis sessions. Register before December 12 for exclusive prices. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
