Ravi Shankar's Daughter, Anoushka, Performing at City Winery

Emerged in the arts of flamenco, fandango, buleria and tango, Shankar takes inspiration from cultural music and plays a variety of instruments, including the sitar, tabla, bansuri flute, percussion and the Spanish guitar. Shankar's music is more than tones beautifully strung together, as each word tells a story of passion and journey.

"Tracing the musical commonalities of the Gypsies' journey from their homeland in Rajasthan passing through Iraq, Iran and Armenia, and finally settling in Spain, Anoushka re-forges the link, separated by a thousand years, between Spanish and Indian music." The London-born singer was influenced to embrace Indian classical music by her musical father Ravi Shankar.
