Society of Illustrators Introduces A New Season of Events

There's something very unique about when you see a piece of art for the first time, and in between the contour lines and bright colors, you find a beatifully universal language that helps you realize just a little bit more about the world around you.

Yet, you don't have to wait until the next time you happen to pass by a gallery window on your way to work. The Society of Illustrators  is now hosting its new season of events with a variety of exhibitions, lectures and openings for anyone who loves art to attend. Whether you're interested in a mix and mingle with fellow art lovers, or looking to experience the wonders of illustration at a gallery opening, this season you can explore the dimensions of art with a whole new perspective at these great events.

Bill Plympton presents The Ressurection of Winsor McCay's 'The Flying'

Winsor McCay is considered to be the "father of animation".  He is probably best known for his newspaper comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland (1905-14 and 1924-27), and the animated short film, Gertie and the Dinosaur (1914).  Shortly before publishing magnet William Randolph Hearst put an end to his animated films, McCay created one of his greatest shorts, The Flying House.

Independent animator Bill Plympton has restored the film by digitally retouching and coloring each frame.  This version also includes voice overs from actors Matthew Modine and Patricia Clarkson. On February 8th, Bill will be premiering the newly restored The Flying House at the Society of Illustrators.  This film series is open to the public. Please visit the Society of Illustrators website to purchase tickets.
