Style Icon Spotlight: Gaga Goddess of Wedges

From the vomitatious meat dress to the eye-opening and jaw-dropping human-egg carrier, fashionistas everywhere are going gaga over Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga has taken the fashion world by storm with her outrageous style selections and has inspired, confused and downright terrified spectators with every piece of attire she dons. While I will not say I envy her personalized flair, I commend her for being a brave soldier of zany headgear, less-than-traditional outfits and, to put it bluntly, painfully unique shoes.

It is these shoes that earn my attention the most. While I confidently and easily strut in heels unimaginable to some sensitive feet, Gaga’s footwear makes me gasp. She has single-handedly reinvented wedges and platform shoes and showcased some matchless fashions (i.e. her incredible Alexander McQueen snakeskin heels from the 2010 Video Music Awards).

Two of Gaga’s most memorable looks appeared in wedge form. At the CFDAAwards, where the Madonna-esque singer, songwriter, performer accepted the Fashion Icon Award, she sported stunning black platform wedges. The label-less shoes were an appalling 24-inches high! Dressed in a slight black and sheer ensemble, Gaga’s “tatas” and abnormally-stacked wedge shoes stole the show.

Gaga’s taste can easily be captured without going overboard through individual pieces that make a bold statement. Since 24-inch wedges are too much for even the most experienced heel-wearer, I would recommend Steve Madden’s Black Suede Kalypsso as a similar edgy touch.

Shining in an asymmetric, Saturn-themed, rhinestone Armani design, Gaga captivated fashion critics, for good and bad reviews, at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. While the outfit was a stunner, the rhinestone covered wedge shoes were mesmerizing. The platforms dazzled in shimmering rhinestones that continued up the Lady’s legs. Chinese Laundry’s Hot Lava silver glitter wedges will create the same twinkling effect and take your outfit from “wow” to “oh my Gaga.”

First she evacuated the dance floor, invaded households with her bad romance and set new rules to the game of telephone. On the edge of glory and atop a parade of incredible, tiered wedge shoes, Lady Gaga will continue to pose as a fashion icon of undeniably exceptional style.
