Summer Art Classes With French Culture at Abundant Learning
All children come into the world with a passion and curiosity. Similarly, children have a natural propensity towards languages that, if properly fostered, can truly improve their cognitive growth and personal enrichment. Multiple language instruction is an excellent way to improve academic skills and exercise cognitive muscles. Abundant Learning, an exclusive boutique learning center, is offering art classes for 3-4 year olds this summer that are conducted in both English and French, to bring the best of language and art together.
Once a week, between June 12th and August 8th, DUMBO Einstein students will learn color, drawing, and painting, in both French and English, through the encouragement and guidance of Sophie Sejourne.
Classes are held Tuesday, 11:15am-12:00pm as well as Wednesday from 11:45am-12:30pm and 3:30pm-4:15pm, so parents are able to choose which time slot is best suited for their schedule.
The first phase of the class will allow children to work with paint brushes to paint a large white paper that measures approximately 9 feet by 3 feet. In this exercise, children begin lessons in color theory by learning about primary colors and their various color combinations. Einstein students will be delighted by all the different hues they can create through mixing paints.
During the second phase, Einsteins will draw geometric forms, such as circles and triangles, with markers, color pencils, paints, and other mediums. Sophie will guide children along with thoughtful questions such as “What ideas do you have when you see this form?,” designed to encourage expressive and abstract thought from curious minds.
Each class will end with group collaboration among Sophie and children, as children create a story from the art they have made throughout the class session. The result will be a beautiful mural, stitched from the dialogues, shapes, colors and ideas of each participating Einstein. Children and parents alike can admire the results of multicultural artistic instruction.
It is the job of parents and educators to guide children to express their thoughts and ideas through the various mediums of art. Whether your little one likes to dabble in pretty paints, or they love to make their imaginations come to life through colored pencils, summer art classes at Abundant Learning can help develop their artistic skills in bilingual beauty.
