Three Simple Ways New Yorkers Can Improve Nutrition

Between Michelle Obama’s national discussions on childhood obesity and New York City’s Large-Size Soda Ban, nutrition has been a hot topic recently, and has certainly been on the minds of many New Yorkers. Although no one can deny that a simple plate of fruit is better for the body than a large cheeseburger and fries, committing to proper nutrition can be more challenging than it appears.

Breaking it down into simple tips, Adam Shuty of Atomic Total Fitness – a New York fitness club – recommends three easy ways that New Yorkers can improve their health through nutritional changes.

    • Cut Sodas & Sugary Drinks – Yes, people are aware that a large bottle of soda is unhealthy, but not everyone knows that iced tea, juices, and specialty lattes can be even worse for you! Limit these sweet drinks and substitute them for a nice healthy glass of water.

    • Cut White Foods – Highly processed foods such as white pasta, rice, and bread can be detrimental to any sound nutrition plan. Replace these with whole wheat foods in order to keep your blood sugar healthy and stable.

    • Limit Portions – It seems obvious, but even the healthiest foods can impact your health if you do not eat healthy sizable portions. Select smaller plates and speak to your local Fitness Center in NYC about how to serve the right sized portion for each meal.
