Tribeca Health & Fitness Talks Weight-Loss Myths

With all the rules and regulations out there these days about what is supposed to help you lose weight, it is difficult to choose the right path for yourself. One day chocolate cake is the worst thing in the world for you, and a week later a slice is part of a healthy diet.

Chocolate cake might be a bit of a stretch, so Tribeca Health & Fitness is happy to clear up some of those weight-loss myths.

While most people are under the impression that carbohydrates are a big no-no, they are actually an important source of energy. When you are planning your diet, you should limit processed carbs like white bread and stick to whole grains. Your body uses carbs as fuel to burn fat when you exercise, so do not eliminate them altogether.

The idea that frozen fruits and vegetables are less nutritious than fresh ones, is only true if you happen to live on a farm and can eat your produce at the peak of its ripeness. As they go through shipping and storage, their nutrient levels will drop anyway. Frozen produce is usually picked and immediately frozen, retaining most of its nutrients.

When you are keeping a close eye on your cholesterol, people tend to believe that eggs are bad for you. In fact there has been no conclusive answer, so it is probably in your best interest to stick to no more than two eggs per week to be safe. While on the subject of breakfast foods, skipping breakfast will not help you lose weight. In fact people who skip breakfast tend to eat more calories over the course of the day, while people who eat breakfast tend to consume less since they're satiated and don't have the need to snack to make up for a lost meal.

Is body weight completely out of your hands? Actually, only 25 percent of your body weight is determined by your genes, while the rest is a result of your behavior. You can change the appearance of your body at any point in time in your life by diet and exercise. However, you actually cannot target only one area of your body at a time to lose weight. You need to increase your lean muscle tissue throughout your entire body. In the same respect your exercise routine is beneficial no matter what time of the day you choose to do it.

For all of your fitness needs, Tribeca Health & Fitness has a top-of-the-line facility and expert tips to keep you in shape and healthy.
