Yoga Test Taking Tips from Lil Yogi's NYC

We at Lil Yogi's NYC realize that some of our Lil Yogi's and many other kids across town have upcoming tests for school so we have decided to compile three helpful yoga strategies that will help your child succeed on their big day!

First, practice Kalabati Breathing with your child. Call them bunny breaths and perch up on the balls of your feet, raise your arms in the air as bunny ears and practice sharp, short exhalations out of your nose. These are extremely beneficial for the body as they work to massage your organs and naturally energize you. This type of breathing through the nose can easily be practiced before or during a test and will be sure to awaken both the body and the mind.

Second, Alternate Nostril Breathing is a great exercise that enhances your child's focus. Sit comfortably and close your right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale fully through your left nostril and then close your left nostril with your right ring finger. Hold. When ready, release your right thumb and slowly exhale through your right nostril. Inhale though your right nostril and then close your right nostril with your right thumb. Hold. When ready, release your right ring finger and slowly exhale through the left nostril. Continue in this pattern for as long as it feels right. When you’re ready, release your fingers from your nose and take a few deep breaths. This will increase your child's concentration that can even help them during test time.

Third, practice some Challenging Balance Poses with your child to enhance their confidence.  Some great poses for this are Warrior 3, balancing on one leg while lifting your other leg behind you as you lean forward with your arms extended either directly in front or behind the body. Also, challenge your child to balance in a tree pose for ten seconds. These poses help center your child's focus and enhance their confidence as children love to prove that they can do it; the same attitude they will need for their upcoming exam!

Do not fear parents. Our helpful yoga tips will surely help your child succeed on test day. Just remember to practice these strategies as much as possible they are not only helpful, but fun too! Namaste.
